EPFO Monthly Payroll Dynamics & Formalisation Trends

The Ministry of Labour & Employment released the latest monthly payroll data showing net addition of formal subscribers in the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Over 58% of new additions were in the 18–25 age bracket, reflecting significant youth entry into organized formal employment.

• Net payroll additions measure formal social security enrolments; they represent flow in covered establishments (≥20 employees), not national unemployment rates.
• Aadhaar-seeded Universal Account Numbers (UAN) enable hassle-free auto-transfer of PF balances across employment switches.
• Data covers three schemes administered by EPFO: EPF Scheme 1952 (provident fund), EPS 1995 (pension), and EDLI 1976 (deposit-linked insurance).
